European Route E1
The European Trail E1 is an axis that joins the North Central Europe with the Mediterranean and more specifically from the North Cape (Norway) to Capo Passero (Sicily). An endless path that connects the Baltic Sea beaches and the warm sandy shores of the Mediterranean. The planned route through Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Italy and spread to a total of 6,000 km, of which 4 000 already marked and fitted with tables indicative. This major project was born from the enthusiasm of thousands of hikers, who have ventured into the adventure of linking ancient stretch, with modern roads, mountain trails to allow transits to touch historic cities and art.
The path E1, which opened July 2, 1972 in Constanta, along the path No.5, is traversed by some thousands of hikers annually.
In Italy it is thanks to F.l.E. (Italian Hiking Federation), the project took the field and is being realized.
