The Feast of the threshing
One of the traditional folklore of Giomici is a celebration of'' Threshing''.
The Threshing festival commemorated for the first time last summer, is the feast par excellence of the farmers concerning the threshing of grain.
This ancient tradition mixed with history and legend goes on the end of the last century with the advent of the first steam engines.
In past decades the event has not passed unnoticed.
The star was the'' absolute'' thresher. Externally it presented itself as a large wooden box mounted on a four-wheeled cart with a length of about six or seven feet and stood out for its brilliant orange color (as long as it was new), protruding from the sides of the axis on which were mounted the pulleys.
The whole thing was driven by a motor which could be a steam engine or a tractor or a motor.
The threshing machine was towed in a nice summer day, a tractor and came prepared for threshing in the farmyard already occupied by large piles of sheaves of grain (wheat, barley, rye, oats, etc. and the various outputs came out straw , and the precious seed husks).
Once the machines placed a large number of workers (from thirty to eighty) were ready to begin their work called by the penetrating sound of the siren, audible at a great distance so that drew the attention of a certain amount of curiosity!
Was threshed by the hour for several hours and little was heard in the distance, the frenetic beat of the tractor and the deep roar of the thresher, the dust raised and the haystacks that slowly grew in height could be seen at a great distance.
THE whole was surrounded by a pleasant atmosphere of festivity where people are told the old proverbs or recent events, we sang folk songs with the inevitable accordion and accompanied by good wine.
