Monteverde

It is situated in the civil and ecclesial territory of Assisi remembered by Innocenzo III in 1198 to Bishop Guido, under the name of Monte Aldone with the care of souls. The name Aldone comes from the language Lombard with the meaning of the Mount of Aldi, that the servants, slaves, perhaps those made by the Lombards for abuse or themselves overwhelmed by the Franks, and perhaps place of prison, isolation or forced labor.
His mercy has 27 families in 1232, among them we see a brave soldier, Mercede, and Offreduccio Favarone, relatives of Santa Chiara and descendants of the Lombards. Among its ancient inhabitants can be included, as the glory, two of the first companions of S.Chiara in the Monastery of San Damiano, are sisters Matilde and Agnina daughters of Tommasino, lord of Monteverde.
In 1266, May 23, the men of Mountain Aldone appoint an attorney to buy the castle of Monteverde. Perugia and Assisi are at war (1383) when Perugia has troops in Petrignano, for fear it gave to Perugini, but it will be the same Assisi to urge Monteverde in 1386, to make good guard the castle. In 1730, Monteverde is still one of the castles in the countryside of Assisi.
Monteverde, on the hill right Chiascio to a wealth marvelous panoramic, wide, across the horizon from the Apennines in Monte Tezio from Subasio to Martani. It has many well-restored farmhouses and its geographic location (mt.653 above sea level) makes it attractive destination for summer holidays.
