An important step in the history of this castle dates back to 1256, wanted to seize the town of Gubbio, and the owner, Giovannuccio Bartolo, along with Thomas Monaldo (owner of Castle ofCompresseto), asked for help in Perugia, then adversary to Gubbio. In exchange for protection, the two lords pledged to maintain the facilities, the courts and residents in the municipality of Perugia. From that year the two castles were always properly protected and encouraged, by virtue of the strategic position of the eastern bulwark of the province of Perugia, and exempted from customs duties and taxes on the merits and loyalty of their residents.
